May Barani Thaw was first runner up of Miss Myanmar International 2014 and she was sent to Japan as a representative of Myanmar arranging by Myanmar Tourism Federation after promoting her.

May Barani Thaw was very pleased to be a first runner up of Miss Myanmar International after she was selected as a first runner up of Miss People 2013. It was her first experience participating in such grand event. She did not expect any award but she was just acknowledged because of her hard workings. She said she is not weak at English language skill but she took more time for thinking about questions. She thinks that was her main weakness of being a first runner up. She leant from that mistake and prepared her best for future competitions. She will continue to work as model girl rather than other artist activities. Moreover she has plans to participate more in charity works.

May Barani Thaw was participated in Miss International 2014 hold in Japan and she thanks to all the fans from before and now. She presented culture and detail about tourist attraction places especially Bagan and Mandalay from Myanmar where is recognized by UNESCO. She performed Shan dance for talent show and designer Myo Min Soe took care for her national costume.

May Barani Thaw choose the coronation costume of Queen Supayalat as national costume and she faced inconvenience situations about that costume. Audiences also criticized that the costume was incongruous dress for her. She explained that when she tested national costume before competition, it was fit for her. However she lost her weight during competition so that the costume looks loose especially the crown. Designer of costume admitted that he referenced sample from coronation costume of King Thibaw and Queen Supayalat to create national costume but the decorations of crown was slightly difference from original one. Most of the audiences commented she look like an indra with that costume.

Although she did not achieve any award, she was appointed as an ambassador of tourism of Japanese government.
